You're in the Right Place if...

You’re suffering with the SYMPTOMS triad of ENTEROPATHY:

  • Abdominal pain and/or discomfort

  • Gas (with abdominal bloating), distention, flatulence, and/or rumbling/grumbling

  • Bowel dysfunctions - with constipation, diarrhea, or both

OR…

You have or believe you have one or more of these DIAGNOSES:

  • IBS (irritable bowel syndrome)

  • SIBO (small intestinal bacterial overgrowth)

  • IBD (inflammatory bowel disease with Crohn’s disease or colitis)

  • Gut microbiome dysbiosis

  • Gut barrier dysfunction (“leaky gut”)

Personal Statement

I saw my path early in life. I knew when I was in kindergarten that I wanted to be a doctor. Our family doctor — my role model — exemplified kindness and expertise, and I wanted to be like him. I approach life and work with sincerity, honestly, and compassion. To me, there is nothing more rewarding than helping a person find symptom relief, heal, and get healthy.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

A board-certified M.D. internist and gastroenterologist, I was university trained (The Ohio State University and Vanderbilt Hospitals) and skilled in the diagnosis and care of patients with all types of GI diseases. But I became known for my special expertise with "functional GI disorders” or FGIDs, in which tests don’t show their cause. The most common one is IBS or irritable bowel syndrome. These are now being called “disorders of gut — brain interaction.”

Most of these patients have never been helped or are not being helped in the right way. Many are “treated” as if the problem is “all in the head.” It’s not, but the head matters.

TODAY

In 2015, I left a large group of gastroenterologists, a group which I helped establish, to further develop my educational offerings - including an online course and updated books - while continuing to truly "care" for my patients. I’m an integrative gastroenterologist, combining the best of state-of-the-art gastroenterology with integrative, functional, and naturopathic medicine. I believe:

e  +  e = E

(education + enlightenment = Empowerment)

Thus, allowing the patient to take charge or his/her health and collaborate with their selected health care professionals.
